In this thread @atilim mentions we can't use system fonts.

I checked the roadmap and didn't see anything there about it. Is this something that is possible or is it just easier for me to always include the fonts with my app?

Would be nice. I hate making bitmap fonts. Not my cup of tea at all. ;)

Different systems might have different fonts installed, so it is better to use your own font files.

@mykyl66 Why not use TTF fonts?

As a side note, using system fonts have some technical difficulties: iOS doesn't allow accessing to the system font data and each platform (iOS and Android) render fonts differently. Therefore we're rendering the fonts using FreeType so that on every platform it looks the same.

I agree that it would be cool, but I am on atilim's side that there has to be priorities and this shouldn't really be one of them (unless it was easy, which I guess is what I was asking). Upside-down can be achieved by rotating the textfield sprite 180 degrees. Circles can be done with a custom font.

totally agree on @Magnusviri. On the other hand, if .ttf file contains upside down characters (glyphs), then they should be rendered without any problem.

Also when I look this thread on my Android phone, these characters aren't rendered correctly. Don't count on system fonts. hehe :)

No need to hack, there are countless apps that display the system fonts on iOS and Android just fine.

Last night I was playing with the uikit.mm plugin and it can display the system fonts, so there is even less need for Gideros to support it.
